PLASTIKA SKAZA 2nd story

Type 1 Pilot Action: Plastika Skaza d.o.o. – Analysis – Recycled Polycarbonate Material

Goal: Implementation of recycled polycarbonate material in high standard applications like in electrical housing is challenging, because less than 10% of plastic is recycled with appropriate quality, moreover the quality of different recycled batches is not always homogeneous. The aim of the project is to identify quality variations between individual polycarbonate granules batches and quantify the quality of the final product.

Approach: From Plastika Skaza provided granules batches were analysed by FTIR-ATR and DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) measurements to identify quality variations, and with provided polycarbonate plates a flame tests were carried out at the OFI labs in Vienna for quality quantification.

Results: All granules samples of Plastika Skaza showed the same appearance in the FTIR-ATR spectra, but in the DSC analysis they performed differently. The INFINO sample types showed an additional peak, which indicates an additional component in the system (could be an additive, a flame retardant or an impurity). The results of the flame tests are, all provided sample are classified in category V-0 according to ÖVE/ÖNORM EN 60695-11-10.
